Ron Korbitz is a cornerstone of the Illinois music community, blending decades of elite classroom instruction with a diverse career as a professional performer. From developing Master’s level curricula at the collegiate level to leading award-winning youth choruses, Ron’s career is defined by a commitment to musical literacy and versatile artistry.
Higher Education & Leadership
VanderCook College of Music (2006–2023)
For nearly two decades, Ron served on the faculty at VanderCook, shaping the next generation of music educators.
Curriculum Architect: Instrumental in developing the General Music teacher training curriculum for the Master’s program.
Specializations: Taught Elementary Music Methods and Methods of Teaching Children’s Choir.
Academic Advisor: Served as a Graduate Research Advisor and presenter for the Music Education Center of America (MECA).
Conducting & Choral Excellence
Ron’s leadership has guided premier youth ensembles to some of the most prestigious stages in the country.
Artistic Director: Palatine Children’s Chorus (2023–2025).
Anima Young Singers: During his four-year tenure, the group received the Chorus America Award for Outstanding Programming. His students performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera, and The Grant Park Music Festival.
Spirito Singers: Assistant Conductor for the Ragazze Choir (2016–2021).
Professional Service: Spent 15 years as the Illinois Repertoire and Resources Chair for ACDA (Elementary and Middle School).
The Performer’s Life
From Classical Guitar to Progressive Rock
Ron maintains an active and eclectic performance schedule that spans genres:
Classical Duo: Performs regularly with his wife, soprano Angela Presutti. The duo has been featured on Classical 98.7 WFMT (Live from Studio One) and the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series.
Contemporary & Rock: Current member of the rock band Schtillrokken. His diverse performance history includes the Frank Pellico Orchestra, the progressive hard rock band Fury, and a six-year residency at the Royal Castle Dinner Theater.
